Encountering place, 2015-2017 (selected artworks)
The body of work was created during my creative practice PhD, in the School of Design and Art at Curtin University through which I examined the materiality of place, and the ways in which it can inform art practice. To do so, I investigated the effect of two radically different places – Katowice, my hometown in Poland, and Perth, my home of the last 3 years. The body of works, comprising lithographs and screen prints, originates from my attentive walking practice, which I employed as a means of understanding the specificity of each place. Through the work, I question how a sense of place, atmosphere, memories and sensations can be embedded within a printed surface.
